Why we changed
our name
We used to be Bootstrap. Now we're Sovright. The mission didn't change. The name needed to catch up with it.
When we started, we called ourselves Bootstrap because that's what we were doing — bootstrapping a Zcash infrastructure company from a standing start. It was an honest name for an early-stage effort. It reflected where we were, not where we were going.
The problem is that Bootstrap doesn't tell you anything about what we actually do. And it creates a persistent, entirely understandable confusion with Bootstrap the CSS framework — one of the most recognized names in web development. Every introduction came with a clarification. Every search returned the wrong thing. Every time we asked someone to look us up, we had to add "not the CSS one."
What Sovright means
Sovright is a compound of sovereign and right. It encodes the thing we actually believe: that your right to choose — who sees your data, who controls your money, and how you exist online — is the existential fight of our time. That right is not a feature you can add later. It has to be built into the infrastructure from the start.
That fight began with Zcash — the most technically serious attempt anyone has made at private money. The cryptography is real. The privacy guarantees are real. But years of that work taught us the right to choose extends far beyond money: it's hollow if your communications are surveilled, your compute is monitored, or your AI interactions are insecure. The infrastructure to protect every layer has been overlooked. That's the gap we exist to fill.
The same company, a clearer name
The rename was not a pivot. The same team, the same work, the same products. Argos — our ZecWallet Lite recovery tool — was built before the rename and will keep being built after it. Relay and the Mining Pool follow the same logic: they exist because the network needs them, not because we needed something to announce.
What changed is that our name now says what we believe. If you found us after finding Argos — or through someone in the Zcash community — you don't need the clarification anymore. Sovright builds the infrastructure that preserves our right to choose. It began with Zcash. It doesn't end there.
