Why Does the Sovright Mining Pool Matter Now?
Two trends are converging that make now an important moment for the Zcash protocol and community. One is a risk. The other is an opportunity. Together, they're why we built the Sovright Mining Pool when we did.
Block production is consolidating
The first trend is a warning sign. Zcash block production is consolidating — the top three mining pools now control around 80% of hashrate. A privacy network whose issuance is increasingly controlled by a few operators is a contradiction. The whole point of proof-of-work is that no small group decides what the network does, and Zcash's mining layer has been drifting away from that.
This is Zcash's moment
The second trend is the opportunity. There's real, growing momentum around Zcash right now: active protocol development, renewed excitement, and privacy as a concept moving from a niche concern to a mainstream one. More people than ever understand why private money matters — and are looking for it.
The infrastructure has to keep pace with that momentum. Decentralized, censorship-resistant mining is critical, because private money isn't credible if the layer it rests on is centralized. You can't build sovereign money on infrastructure a handful of operators quietly control.
Meeting the moment
We launched the Sovright Mining Pool to ensure that Zcash can meet this moment and grow without needing to sacrifice our core tenets of privacy and decentralization. Predictable payouts, shielded earnings, and transaction selection that stays in the hands of the miners doing the work — so the network can scale up without giving up what makes it worth scaling.
The pool is live on testnet now. You can point a CPU miner at it today — no special hardware required — to explore the interface and help us pressure-test it ahead of mainnet.
