The trade-off miners shouldn't have to make
Pooled mining exists for a good reason: it smooths out the luck of solo mining into steady, predictable payouts. But in practice, joining a pool means handing something over. The pool decides which transactions go into the blocks you help produce, not you.
That matters more than it sounds. When a small number of pool operators make that decision for everyone, they can end up with an outsized amount of influence over the network, including which transactions get confirmed and which get quietly left out. We don't think miners should have to give that up just to get a stable payout.
